You may remember my first attempt at
decoupage with tissue paper . I failed miserably and to be honest I was put off.
Since then, however, I picked myself up a blank pine box to try again and have today plucked up the courage to try again. It's not gone without its errors, but I am definitely more pleased with the result this time.

Here is a quick summary of what I did (partly for my benefit so I can remember for next time)
Firstly I got my plain box and removed the hinges.

Then I placed the lid on the reverse of my tissues to draw the net of the lid. I then cut this net out.

I painted both the inside and the out of the box. Partly for decorative purposes and partly to help if the tissue absorbed too much moisture and went see through.

I then used a very thin layer of glue to stick the tissue onto the lid.

When I made the net I made sure the flaps would fold onto the inside of the lid.

I then left it to dry, after which I used a sponge applicator to apply a thin layer of Matte Modge Podge over the tissue to seal it.
After the Modge Podge had dried I re fit the hinges and the box was complete!

Something that doesn't show up in the pictures is the texture the tissue was left with. I used Cath Kidston napkins to decoupage with and found that because they are very thick (about 3 layers) the glue only stuck the bottom layer to the box, and the other two layers were left raised. When I spread on my Modge Podge, the napkins just creased. I am not too disheartened though with the finish, it looks almost like the effect of mulberry paper.
