A Couple Of Handmade Cards

I have a lot of tester paint pots collected from renovating our house and sometimes I crack them out when I am crafting. I decided to try stenciling today so I drew myself a teacup outline on a piece of paper and cut it out. I then used a dry brush to stipple on layers of paint. It went really well! So basquing in the success of that card I kept the paints out and made another card, this time hand painting some bunting on as the design. Again, that went well too! For those that follow me, you will know that I always go 1 step too far and ruin things. So I got my alphabet stamps out.

Bad idea.

Persisting With Decoupage

You may remember my first attempt at decoupage with tissue paper . I failed miserably and to be honest I was put off.

Since then, however, I picked myself up a blank pine box to try again and have today plucked up the courage to try again. It's not gone without its errors, but I am definitely more pleased with the result this time.

Cath Kidston Decoupage Wooden Box

Here is a quick summary of what I did (partly for my benefit so I can remember for next time)

Firstly I got my plain box and removed the hinges.

Then I placed the lid on the reverse of my tissues to draw the net of the lid. I then cut this net out.

I painted both the inside and the out of the box. Partly for decorative purposes and partly to help if the tissue absorbed too much moisture and went see through.

I then used a very thin layer of glue to stick the tissue onto the lid.

When I made the net I made sure the flaps would fold onto the inside of the lid.

I then left it to dry, after which I used a sponge applicator to apply a thin layer of Matte Modge Podge over the tissue to seal it.

After the Modge Podge had dried I re fit the hinges and the box was complete!

Something that doesn't show up in the pictures is the texture the tissue was left with. I used Cath Kidston napkins to decoupage with and found that because they are very thick (about 3 layers) the glue only stuck the bottom layer to the box, and the other two layers were left raised. When I spread on my Modge Podge, the napkins just creased. I am not too disheartened though with the finish, it looks almost like the effect of mulberry paper.

A Catch Up and A Giveaway

Well hello there! Isn't the weather poo? I have been using it to lock myself in my craft room and get on with things whilst listening to Radio 1, which has been pretty awesome this afternoon.

I have tried (and I think failed) at making a hand sewn card

Crochet'd an ickle mouse using my Amigurumi book

And been trying to fix a 'perfect condition' camera I bought of Ebay that was in absolutely shocking condition. I've got it in pieces on my desk and so far so good.

Now, I mentioned the other day I had reached my 200th post, so I have decided to give away the fruity charm I made when showcasing Fimo Fruit Canes to you. I will also be chucking in 4 fimo canes for you to try out.

All you need to do is leave a comment and I will draw a winner on Friday 17th June

Father's Day Gift Idea

It was OH and my Dad's birthday on Friday so after sorting out OH's presents I set to work on making my Dad's presents. Amongst other things I made him, I thought I would show you a very personalised gift that I think would work well for a high percentage of Dads for Father's Day.

PersonalisedCigarFatherDad

All I did was choose 5 special 'cigar smoking moments' to label each cigar with (his birthday, my wedding, my first child, my sisters wedding and her first child) then fiddle around for ages getting the right font on Microsoft Word. I then printed the labels directly onto brown paper to give an element of class, and wrapped the labels round the cigars using double sided sticky tape to secure them.

I am by no means condoning smoking, but if your Father is a celebratory smoker this just might be the gift for him!

On a seperate note, somehow I have made it to my 200th post!
