I'm Back!!

I'm back, well rested and well browned from Corfu. We landed ourselves in a few moments of bad luck through the holiday, mainly involving the getting there part. First of all we got up at 3am to jump in a taxi to East Midlands Airport for our 8:15am flight. We arrived at 6am to be greeted with the news that our plane wasn't coming and we were to be going on coach to Leeds Bradford airport to be flown out at 2:10pm! By the time we boarded the plane we had already missed half the day, so by the time we got there it was the evening! To add to the delay, we then found out that Corfu was having it's first day of rain in 4 months that day. Blooming brilliant. What we didn't realise until we were in the sky above Corfu, was that rain actually meant rain and lightning! I must say, it wasn't an amazing experience flying in lightning.

We managed to land safely, and just as we had got past passport checks, the power went out in the baggage area. We were stood in the pitch black for 30 mins!

When the power finally came back on (greeted by a typically English "Whey!") we then had to traverse the Corfu hairpins in the hire cars, to our Villa (which turned out to be stunning).

So overall, not a good first day! However, hats off to the men of our group as they decided to F it and get in the pool, late at night, whilst it was still stormy, and initiate a game of 'stand on the lilo' (which we found out is actually possible!).

After an eventful day we looked forward to starting off the holiday the next day. Unfortunately Mother Nature didn't get the memo. It was still stormy the next day :(

However, alls well that ends well. The sun shone for the rest of the holiday and we were able to have a great time.

I spent most of my time with a camera to my face so you are fortunate enough to see a couple of my holiday pics :)

I hope I didn't bore you too much :P

Rainbow Camera Filters

I am preparing to go on holiday tomorrow for a week in Corfu. I am very very excited as it is my first week long holiday ever! I am taking about 7 different cameras with me and 1400 rolls of film (probably an over exaggeration of the number of films tbh). I thought I would share with you a camera modification you can do yourself with any camera (even digital) to spruce up your pictures. It will basically look like this:

All you need are some coloured gel filters. Overhead Projector paper or quality street wrappers can be used too. I used Lee Filters as I was able to buy quite a varied selection of colours in their sample pack Here for £1.01 + p&p.

All you need to do is work out what 1/7th of your camera lens is, and cut a slither of filter paper for each colour. I used 3mm slithers. Then all you do is line then up as close to each other as they will go, and lay a piece of sellotape over them to stick them together. Leave overhang so you can stick this 'filter' to your camera lens.

Then snap away and depending on the light conditions, you will either have vibrant rainbow colours or a subtle rainbow hue to your pictures.

I hope to see you all giving this a go nearer Christmas with all those boxes of Quality Streets and Roses on offer!

See you after my holiday

The Simplicity Of Ring Making

Ring making, I believe, is one of the most easiest crafts ever. All you do is get something you like, and glue it onto a ring base. Fool proof!

Something I have seen done to death on the web is the bead and wire bird's nest. Each time I see it I keep meaning to make one, and finally I got round to it!

Beaded wire birds nest ring

I tell you what, I would love to be the smug son of a gun that thought this design up. It really is the simplest designs that are the most successful isn't it? All you do is thread three beads onto some wire, then wrap the rest of the wire around the beads til the nest is formed. To secure it to my ring base I continues coiling the wire underneath the beads to make a sturdy base for the glue to be applied. Voila! Something you like, glued to a ring base.

I seriously need to stock up on ring bases as I only have one other one to play with.

Autumn Is Unofficially Here

It's not officially Autumn (Fall) yet. According to Google it starts around the 22nd of Septermber. However, the signs of Autumn are already here and I am extra excited! Autumn is my new favourite season. It used to be Spring, but since I am now a keen Lomographer (Non Digital Photographer) seeing the leaves on the ground and the colours of the trees I am now very excited to see Autumn in all it's glory.

Autumn means it is officially the countdown to all things festive, which too, is a bonus. My Birthday, Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas, New Years, they are all coming soon! Of course, for those of you with childern, it now means you can pack the kids off to school again (tiny yippee anyone?).

So, to celebrate all things Autumn, I picked up a back of buttons labelled 'Autumn' from my local craft shop and I now present to you the best picture in my living room.
